Godly Fathers

Godly Fathers

For me, each year’s Father’s Day is a special day on the calendar. The day reminds me of some of my greatest blessings…my children and my grandchildren. I first became a father on May 3rd, 1981. As a father, I did a lot of growing as I matured as a father over the years and I hope that I am a much better grandfather today.

The role of fatherhood is an especially important part of God’s plan of family. The family unit needs the wise leadership, godly example, and loving encouragement that a Christian father can give. Paul wrote in Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

As fathers, we are urged to teach our children about God. We teach with both our spoken words and our demonstrated word, our example. As I look over the 70 West family, I see so many great men who are rising up to meet the challenge of being a great Christian dad.

I see men taking an active role in their families. I see men working with their children in the quest to see Jesus. I see men loving leading their children to the Lord. I see men doing exactly what God wants to see in the family. To me, you are all heroes! Thank you for being a godly Christian dad.

As their children, God wants us to learn from them, obey them, and honor them. Ephesians 6:1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”
