A Song on my Lips

A Song on my Lips

We often sing this lyric: “I will cling to my Savior and never depart -I will joyfully journey each day. With a song on my lips and a song in my heart, That my sins have been taken away.” Many times we get caught up in the idea that I want the musical side of the song to sound great. In doing this we sometimes overlook the wording. As faithful children of God we ought to live with a song on our lips and a song in our hearts. That is the express reason why I published certain song lyrics for a few weeks.

Why did you choose those songs preacher? Well, I choose those songs for a few reasons. Probably the biggest reason is to remind us about the Holy God we worship and serve. The last song was “Here I am to Worship”. What a great song. Here, geographically speaking, our congregation gathers here 4 times a week to worship God. We also gather to encourage each other to stay strong and remain faithful unto the God who has saved me. What a great privilege given to us by God!

Notice the next word-I. My gathering with my brethren is personal. I am required to gather. What if no one else gathers? I am still obligated to gather and worship. The only person I can control is the one who saves me. The worship of God should be a deeply personal practice for us.

And then there is the word- am. Am is defined as the 1st person singularpresent tense of be. If you caught the idea, it is that I am to be somewhere. Here I AM! Not only am I here; I am here for a specific purpose. I am here and all that I have is here. My heart, my soul, my mind, my intention, my desire is HERE!

The next phrase is – to worship. Worship is defined as an expression of reverence and adoration toward the Holy One. It is God’s Word that tells us how He expects us to worship. Not just anything nor anyway is acceptable unto God as worship. Since God is the complete audience of worship and since He is the authority, we, as His servants, are obligated to worship God His way.

Today is the first day of the week. As we gather to worship let’s remember some things. Our God is holy and mighty. He is our provider. Due to all those facts, let’s give God everything we have in our worship unto to Him. “Here I am to worship-Here I am to bow down-Here I am to say that You’re my God. You’re altogether lovely-Altogether worthy-Altogether wonderful to me.”
