We have been given a precious and wonderful gift, given to us by the God of Heaven and earth. We are taught about this gift within the Holy Scriptures of our Lord. The gift is called the assurance of salvation. To define this term quickly and efficiently we say the following: Peace of mind and security of the soul when man understands and obeys the plan of God. Without this blessing, you and I could quickly ruin our lives with worry and doubt. Doubt and worry are the killers of hope and faith. Let’s take a few moments to understand the blessed assurance of God to man.
The catalysis for this hope is found by man’s obedience. It is necessary to obtain God’s favor by obeying His Law. We do that by simply hearing His Word- Romans 10:17, obtaining faith through that hearing- John 8:24, repenting of our sinsLuke 13:3, confessing Jesus as the Christ- Matthew 10:32-33 and being baptized for the remission of our sins- Acts 2:38, Romans 6:1-4. To follow this plan is to grasp that assurance of God. It is only through this plan that mankind will obtain the assurance of salvation and the assurance of his eternity.
While the plan to start the walk with God is so very simple, the plan to stay holy before Him can prove to be a little more difficult. Revelation 2:10 reminds us that the plan for God would urge us to stay in that holy assurance by living a holy life before God and man. We live in a world of unstable times, guilt, fear, pride, and selfishness. Satan uses all these tactics to help us take our eyes off the Lord. However, it is our God who promises us the victory for those faithful children.
“ Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a fore-taste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.”
