We are very familiar with the account of the events in Acts chapter 2. It is a very encouraging and uplifting chapter for the children of God. This is the single point in which the salvation of God is offered to man for the first time. This is the day that the doors of the church open. This is the point at which the blood of Christ is available for man to access and wash away his sin-completely. Many times, we begin with the folks who were there… and that’s a great study. We explore the sermon in its fullness as this sermon is the first Gospel sermon given to us in the Bible. We study the conversions and the 3,000 people, who made a proper decision to follow God. We even look at the congregations that started on that Faithful Day.
Acts 2:1-4,
“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
However, we may never really recognize the fact that God’s plan to open the doors of the church, offer salvation through that church, and convert some 3,000 people to His Family happened due to the willingness of twelve men. Notice first that these men were of one accord. This is the idea that they were all of one mindset. What was that mindset? Answer: To follow God and His directive completely. Because their mindset was such, then it was the fact that God used them in this manner. God would not use them unless they were on board. Any doubt, fear or questioning, God would have found prepared men to complete this task.
What does God have in store for me? Will He allow me to doubt or have fear and still give me that task? Do not derail God’s plans for you with doubt and fear. Jesus said,
“ I must work the works of Him that sent me, for the night cometh when no man can work.” (John 9:4)
