We often sing this song during these next few weeks. It kind of puts our minds into the holiday mood. This song places our minds in a giving mood and a happy mood. However, I would contend that every day is the most wonderful time of the year. I’ll explain.
If I paid off all the debt you have for your whole lifetime, would that be wonderful? What if I paid that debt and gave you a great living salary on top of that? Would that be a wonderful day? You and I can see this gesture and we all would understand how life changing that would be. This idea is clearly seen in the Holy Scripture of our God. The plan of God by the sacrifice of the Holy One not only paid our debt of sin, it gives us hope of a great Eternity. Notice Colossians 1:12-14- “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: ”(eph.added bh) interestingly, while we logically know this principle, we often overlook it, hoping or expecting God to save us no matter how we live in this life. THIS WILL NOT EVER BE THE CASE.
We must note also that I have the opportunity to relinquish my gift. While it is a gift, that does not mean I am obligated to keep it. In our earlier scenario, I can take his payment of my debt, then build up more debt. In the spiritual sense, I can be saved by a Holy God and later refuse to follow the path thereby acquiring more sin debt. Understand this fact: I DO NOT HAVE TO STAY IN DEBT. Notice 1 John 1:6-10- “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” We must have the desire to keep our side of the contract in order for the contract of debt cancellation to remain valid.
The opportunity to cancel this debt is offered by God 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Do not waste your time on other plans that can never work. Follow God and live!
