We have been taught for years the lost are out there, somewhere and we need to be searching for those people. The other end of this spectrum is that we need to make sure we convert our young ones. Both of these statements are true but they are not the only times that evangelism is needed. I believe that evangelism is the most under-followed command of God for the individual Christian. God has not been specific on how we are to go, but He has said GO! God has been very specific on what we are to teach, the GOSPEL! God has told us to whom we are to go- the WORLD! God has also made the command very clear of when to go – NOW!
In Matthew 28:18-20 and in Mark 16:14-16, Jesus gave a direct command to the 12 disciples. Those disciples later became the Apostles and they handled this command very carefully. Our mission, the mission of every Christian, is to teach the lost. We are required by God to teach the lost the Gospel of Jesus; His death, burial, and resurrection (1 Corinthians 15, Isaiah 53). The lost include all men and women all over the world who have never heard the truth. It also included the ones in our house who have yet to put on Christ in baptism (Romans 6:1-4). After these babes in Christ come up out of that watery grave, they need to see proper examples of faithfulness (1Corinthians 11:1). You need to be that example!
That being said, it needs to be understood that God’s part of our salvation has been completed. Jesus’ part of our salvation has been completed. It is now up to me- will I be obedient unto the Word of God or not? Many folks have been baptized into the Family and have turned around and walked away. The religious world would tell us that that person is still “saved”. However, this IS NOT the case. (Acts 8:9-24, 2 Timothy 4:10, Galatians 5:4-7, Matthew 26:14-16, 1 Peter 2:20-22). I cannot be saved without my part. We see that very clearly by every example in Hebrews 11.
Teaching God’s Word to the lost is a divine requirement of the children of God. We need to be concentrating on the lost in other nations, in other states, in our homes and in our mirrors. May God bless us as we are faithful unto Him.
