Is Abortion Acceptable?

Abortion from Society’s Standpoint…How does society view human life? The earliest generations respected the word that God gave us and saw human life as sacred. The values of human life have changed drastically because man is no longer seen as being made in the image of God but has downgraded so much that “the present generation sees man as a highly sophisticated miniaturized computer [sic] (Simpson, 1977).” They have lowered the importance of human life in general. Laws in the past and still today are being changed to fit the views of man rather than what we learn from God. With the lowered view of human life, man has a lowered moral value.

More lives have been ended in abortion than in all our wars, and that is more than a little sad. People don’t always see it that way. Many people in today’s society see abortion as a woman’s right because it is supposedly a part of her body when it most definitely is not. Some people see an unborn baby as a parasite that lives inside the mother and disrupts daily life. The fact of the matter is that an unborn child is a human being, and we will see that later in the other sections of this introduction. One point that I would like to make is that everyone who is for abortion and pro-choice has already been born, so they get a choice, but the unborn human being does not. Interesting dilemma if you ask me.

Abortion and the Scriptures

The Bible will not explicitly say that “thou shalt not commit abortion” but the implications are there in many verses. The easiest one to bring out is (Ex. 20:13 KJV) “Thou shalt not kill,” which condemns murder specifically, and the above points brought out how abortion is killing an innocent human being with the premeditated intent to get rid of it for recreational reasons. that is, it is not threatening the life of the mother. That is murder and breaks the law that God has put in scripture.

Genesis 1 teaches us that each seed produces after its own kind, and if the seed of a human man and a human woman are joined together, they will make a human baby; it is simple and should be considered common sense. The same words for children are used to describe babies that are still in the womb throughout scripture, that is both Old Testament and New Testament passages, and some examples are Genesis 25:21-24; 9:19; 17:25, Job 3:16, Lam. 4:4, Luke 1:41, 44; 2:12, Acts 7:19, 11 Tim. 3:15 and many more. The Bible, God considers that which is conceived within a woman a human child, no matter the stage, or how long it has been in the womb.

God, according to scripture has part in forming the baby in the womb, (Psa. 139:13–16 KJV) “For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.”

There is even a punishment for those who caused a miscarriage under the Old Law (Ex. 21:22 KJV) “If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.” God has made it clear that murder is sin, and that child at any stage in the woman’s womb is a human baby, which means that killing it is murder, and a sin.
